Colton's Boho Blue Rainbow First Birthday

On March 27, 2020, our world grew a little brighter when Colton Dean Boya was born.

Right at the start of Covid lockdown, with the whole world in a scary and dark place, we called him our "bright spot." Over the past year, he's proven to be a truly joyful and light-hearted little soul who spreads sunshine wherever he goes.

For his first birthday, surrounded by so much hope and love, I felt like rainbows were a fitting theme.

Drawing inspiration from my favorite little blue rainbow pajama set of his, I leaned into a boho aesthetic with tons of personalized details for the decor and desserts.

Since we just moved back to the east coast, we were able to celebrate together with a few family members and friends who were meeting Colton for the very first time! We held an intimate Covid-friendly get together outside in our backyard -- and while it thankfully didn't rain, March in upstate New York can be unpredictable at best. The weather wasn't exactly on our side, with 45 degree temps for our quick little cake smash, but we toughed it out!

With only a limited number of people able to join us in person, we streamed the moment on Zoom for the rest of our beloved aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends. (Consider this added to the Covid weirdness journal!)

Colton had a great time and after a bit of coaxing, realized that he LOVES cake and was picking the whole thing up with both hands to shove in his mouth! (After bedtime, I busted out a beautiful bottle of champagne to celebrate myself and what this year has meant for Mama and Dada. Ha!)

We were so thrilled to be able to celebrate our sweet baby with a real party after spending so much of his life locked down and far away from our people. For us, his birthday marked a milestone even bigger than him -- or us.

I'm sharing photos from the day below, along with links for all the sweet details. I also edited a video highlight reel from Colton's first year, which always makes me a little weepy (in the best way). Please enjoy!
